About Us
National Coal Mine Water Hazard Prevention Engineering Research Center (referred to as "National Engineering Center") is the only national engineering technology research center for mine water hazard prevention approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China in 2014.
The National Engineering Center is the only international mine water research institute established by the International Mine Water Association (IMWA) in the world, and serves as the affiliated unit of vice president of the IMWA (one of the two vice presidents worldwide, 2017-2024). Also, it acts as the affiliated unit of associate editor for the international journal of Mine Water and the Environment which is indexed by the SCI.
The National Engineering Center, also serves as the affiliated unit of group leader of the expert group for mine water hazard prevention of the National Mine Safety Administration, the affiliated unit of director for Key Laboratory of Mine Water Hazard Controlling of National Mine Safety Administration, and the affiliated unit of director for Joint key Laboratory of the Coal Industry Association for Mine Water Hazard Prevention and Resource Utilization. Besides, it is the affiliated unit of the director for professional committee of mine water hazard prevention and utilization of Geological Society of China, and the affiliated unit of the director for the professional committee of the mine emergency and safety of China Society of Emergency Management.
The National Engineering Center consists of the laboratory of mine water filling condition simulation and evaluation, the laboratory of advanced detection of mine water hazard, the laboratory of monitoring and early warning of mine water hazard, the laboratory of mine water chemistry and rapid identification, the laboratory of transparent mine and virtual reality, the laboratory of mine water hazard prevention and emergency management intelligent information platform, the laboratory of mine geotechnical engineering, the laboratory of mine water plugging and resource utilization, etc. It has undertaken more than 700 national, provincial, and ministerial level projects, including 4 national 973 projects (including topics and special topics), the National Key Research and Development Program of China, and nearly 30 the National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, such as the Major Research Instrument Development Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with research funding of more than RMB 150 million. The National Engineering Center has received a total of 3 national scientific and technological awards and 30 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological awards. Over 1000 papers have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and conference proceedings, including Water Resources Research, Groundwater, Hydrological Sciences Journal, Journal of Hydrology, Hydrogeology Journal, Environmental Earth Sciences, Water Resources Management, Geomatics Natural Hazards & Risk, Water, Mine Water and the Environment, Chinese Science Bulletin, etc. Besides, over 30 monographs have also been published. More than 150 invention patents have been authorized by the United States, Hong Kong and China and over 50 software copyrights were obtained. Besides, more than 10 national and coal industry safety standards, specifications, and interpretation have been formulated. The above achievements have achieved great technical, economic and safety benefits in more than 30 coal industry groups and over 100 mines with serious mine water hazard in China.
After years of construction, the National Engineering Center has jointly established several teams with specialized geophysical, geochemical and drilling. It has the capacity of carrying out technical consultation and services, such as undertaking coal mine water hazard prevention and control, coordinated development of coal and water resources, green mining and other projects. For example, several classical engineering projects related with the mine water hazard prevention have successfully implemented in the Urad Houqi lead-zinc mine of Zijin Mining, Caojiatan coal mine in Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group, Jinjie coal mine in Shendong Coal of China Energy, etc. The National Engineering Center has an outstanding innovation team led by the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Wu Qiang, characterized by the combination of old, middle-aged, and young scholars. The team of the National Engineering Center has been awarded the titles of Excellent Innovation Team by the Ministry of Education, and Mine Safety Team of China Association for Science and Technology.
